This practical and empowering knowledge is useful for all backcountry users.  \nBeyond the idea of a survival class this is also an amazing opportunity to reconnect yourself with nature and the outdoors.  \nWhy reconnect with nature? \nDirect experience with nature is primary learning. Humans share many traits with animals\, such as bone-structures\, sensory perceptions\, and footprints that mirror every hairy mammal on the earth. We have become who we are by living outdoors for hundreds of thousands\, perhaps even millions of years. Just as a baby begins to breathe simply by being in a world of oxygen and letting its body respond\, so do our bodies and brains have millions of built in neurological connections with the environment\, waiting to be activated. Chris will go through his kit and share advice. \nGeneral risk assessment \nSurvival Priorities\nSafety Techniques when handling  knives\, axe\, saw\, shovel\,fire.\nLocation selection \nBasic shelter construction\, how to use natural resources with a low or no impact. Being resourceful. *great time to test survival  items from your kits in the field\nFire starting practice ( only in winter/shoulder seasons)\n\n\nGroup discussion on feeling comfortable in the wild\, how being prepared will help.\nBush walk to forage\, track and explore \n\n  \nIncluded in the price/ takeaways \n training from an experienced survival / naturalist instructor with over 30 years practical experience.  \nGroup gear and tools required to run lessons \nA comprehensive understanding on how to feel comfortable in the wilderness \nCoffee\, tea and light snacks – water to top up water bottles. \nWhat to bring \n\nLunch and a water bottle \nClothing for the weather forecasted\, rain gear if necessary etc. This class will run rain\, shine or snow! \nAppropriate footwear\, hiking boots or shoes\, waterproof if necessary. Ideally non slip closed toe and comfortable to be worn for the entirety of the class. \nWork gloves\nEye protection \nBackpack and small survival kit if you have one and would like to share. We will be showing what his kit will include and give tips. He would also love to see what you bring as everyone will have a different take on this. \nNotebook and pen \nPersonal items such as allergy or other meds\, suncream\, insect repellent\, etc. \n\n**small class disclaimer\, Chris will say he is by no means an expert\, we all have more to learn from every situation we are put in together.
