My early interest in outdoor pursuits and natural history was fuelled by participation the scouting movement and outdoor clubs. I started working as an outdoor professional as a camp director with the North Shore Family YMCA.
My education includes an Outdoor Recreation Management (Capilano College), Park Naturalist Training (Douglas College, GVRD Parks) and Sea Kayak Guide Training (SKGABC).
I have worked as a wilderness guide and instructed outdoor skills to all ages, at various community recreation and outdoor education facilities. My most challenging position was senior outdoor instructor, working with ex-offenders and “at risk” clients (John Howard Society).
As an interpreter I have conducted tours at GVRD Regional Parks and the Haig-Brown Heritage Site in Campbell River. As a sea kayak guide I enjoy instructing paddling skills and discussing the human history of Quadra Island and the surrounding area. |

From bike touring in Alaska to hiking in the Andes, Michelle has a passion for the outdoor lifestyle. Kayaking on the ocean is just all part of the adventure. Hailing originally from the Kootenays in the BC interior, Michelle grew up lake padding early on. In the last 5 years, since she discovered ocean paddling and kayaking, she has been hooked. She is a Certified Level One Kayak Guide with SKGABC, and looks forward to playing on the water with you.
Hey and after a hard day of paddling you might ask her to help you work out the tight knots, cause she is also a Certified Massage Practitioner.

This is my forth year working as a sea kayak guide and my first year working with Quadra Island Kayaks and I love it! Quadra is an awesome place to guide tours!
When I'm not on the water I'm usually rock climbing at the crags, longboarding around Campbell River, or snowboarding up at Mount Cain in the wintertime.
I hope to see you on the water sometime soon, soaking up the sun and hanging with the seals!
Cheers,
Sonia.

For as long as Cody can remember, he has loved the outdoors. Growing up in Nelson BC he spent many years working various jobs (and even more time exploring the outdoors), but it wasn't until working as a sea kayak guide did he find his passion. He feels life is for learning, and the best possible way to learn is to teach others. Guiding and instructing allows him to continue to learn while facilitating education for others.
Cody is certified with Paddle Canada as an instructor, SKGABC as an assistant overnight guide, carries a 100hr wilderness first aid certificate w/ CPR C through Slipstream First Aid and a diploma in outdoor recreation management with Capilano U.
The human spirit is like the cold melt-waters of the diminishing glaciers; it must nourish and foster growth among living things along its path for fear of growing stagnant. When the tide ebbs and waves crash, I will know the sea is my home.? Cody Hartikainen
